1. Assessing Your Land & Site Layout

Before making any major decisions, evaluate your land to determine the best location for your glamping cabins. Consider factors like terrain, accessibility, and surrounding scenery to create an inviting and practical layout.

Key Considerations:
  • Flat vs. Sloped Land: Installing cabins on flat land is generally easier, but if your site is sloped, groundwork may be required.
  • Ground Stability: Ensure the soil can support structures without excessive movement or erosion.
  • Proximity to Natural Features: Positioning cabins near lakes, woodlands, or scenic views enhances guest appeal.
  • Privacy & Spacing: Ensure a balance between maximising occupancy and providing guests with a private, immersive experience in nature.

2. Installing Essential Infrastructure

Your site must be equipped with the necessary utilities to provide a comfortable stay for your guests. Planning and installing these elements early will save time and costs down the line.

Water Supply
  • Ensure a reliable water source, either from the mains or a borehole.
  • If mains water isn't available, a well or rainwater collection system with proper filtration may be viable.
Waste Management & Drainage
  • All accommodation units with ensuite facilities will require a sewage solution.
  • Options include:
Mains Drainage: Ideal if the site has easy access to existing sewage systems.
Septic Tank or Treatment Plant: Suitable for off-grid locations but requires planning approval.
Composting Toilets: An eco-friendly option that reduces water consumption.
Electricity & Power
  • Decide whether to connect to the mains or use off-grid alternatives like solar panels.
  • Install sufficient cabling and sockets to accommodate cabin lighting, heating, and guest charging needs.
Heating & Insulation
  • Our glamping cabins come fully insulated, making them suitable for year-round stays.
  • Optional wood burners or electric heating can enhance comfort during colder months.

3. Access & Parking Considerations

Your guests will need safe and convenient access to the site. This includes:

  • Road Access: Ensure roads leading to your site are well-maintained and can accommodate delivery trucks for cabin installation.
  • Pathways & Signage: Clear walkways and signposting improve the guest experience.
  • Parking Spaces: Allocate adequate parking near the cabins, ensuring accessibility without compromising the natural setting.

4. Planning Permission & Legal Requirements

Most glamping sites require planning permission before installing permanent accommodation units. Many local councils have specific guidelines for glamping developments, including environmental impact, drainage, and accessibility.

  • Pre-Planning Consultation: Many councils offer pre-application services, allowing you to gauge their initial response before submitting a full application.
  • Site Survey & Layout Plan: Providing a professional site plan with your application will strengthen your case.
  • Planning Submission: A full application will typically require:

A location map (1:2500 or 1:1250 scale)
A detailed proposal including indicative drawings
Supporting documents such as environmental impact reports, site photos, and previous planning history (if applicable)

Many of our clients have successfully gained planning approval for their glamping sites, including Driftwood Lodges, where our cabins were approved and installed in a lakeside setting. We work with an experienced architect who can guide you through the process and ensure all necessary documents are correctly submitted.

5. Choosing the Right Cabins for Your Business

  • Seasonal Packages: Offer themed stays, such as Christmas retreats or wellness weekends.
  • Social Media Promotion: High-quality images and videos on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok can significantly boost bookings.
  • Partnering with Local Businesses: Collaborate with wedding venues, adventure parks, or farm experiences to attract more guests.

What are your log cabins made from?

Our log cabins are made from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certified Scandinavian Redwood. Our modern lodges have the option of being cladded with Marley Board, which is virtually maintenance free, meaning you don’t have to worry about having to re-treat or paint your cabin.

What is a BBQ Cabin?

Our BBQ Cabins are inspired by traditional Scandinavian grillkota (“grill house”) that were used by reindeer herders to provide a sheltered space during harsh winters. With a central grill for cooking, grillkota cabins provided a space for communal cooking that are still in use in the modern day.

Are Camping Cabins similar to bell tents and glamping pods?

No, bell tents are made from canvas and are only used for glamping in the dryer seasons. Glamping pods are made from wood but have a similar structural shape to traditional tents and usually consist of just one room. Camping Cabins are inspired by traditional Scandinavian grillkota, can have extensions fitted for additional rooms and can be used all year round.

Are your log cabins waterproof?

Yes, our camping and glamping cabins are watertight due to their structure and insulated roofs and floors. This makes them an ideal choice for all year round glamping!

Where can you deliver your log cabins to?

We deliver and install our log cabins across the UK! Our factory is based in Derbyshire, where all our cabins are made, then sent to businesses across the country. Wherever you are in the UK, we can get a cabin to you!

Can you make a custom cabin for my business?

Our aim is to provide businesses across the UK with high quality timber buildings. Our cabins can be customised with extensions and partitions. However if you are looking for a more bespoke log cabin, our team can provide you with a free quote.
