The Hungry Obit Case Study

“The Hungry Obbit invites groups of friends to experience a night of dining in a Hobbit house under the stars!”

Hilltop Farm in Northumberland is home to an animal sanctuary run by Robin and his team that take in and care for animals in need. To help raise money for Hilltop Farm, Robin had a BBQ cabin installed, where he hosts private dining experiences at “The Hungry Obbit”.

A group of women are sat around a lit central BBQ grill in a log cabin. There are plates and glasses on the table surrounding the grill.

A sturdy metal pan is sat over the fire in the central grill of a BBQ cabin. There are people sat around the grill and a man preparing food.
The Business:

Since opening in 2017, bookings at The Hungry Obbit have always filled up fast with many repeat customers and newcomers wishing to experience eating in the BBQ hut at different times of the year.

In Robin’s own words; “This extraordinary mystical experience offers locally sourced fresh food cooked in front of you, by myself as your host over four hours, I cook a set menu of 3 courses” and “catering for all diary requirements”. The menu at The Hungry Obbit offers something for everyone to enjoy with treats such as “cheese fondue, steaks and a chocolate fondue for pudding”.

The Cabin:

In one of our Scandinavian inspired BBQ cabins, alongside hosting secret dining experiences, Robin also uses his BBQ cabin to host seasonal experiences like Santa’s grotto and fundraising events throughout the year in aid of the Hilltop Farm animal sanctuary. Even during lockdown in 2020, Robin was resourceful and hosted online competitions for people to win future dining experiences in the cabin with the money going to the sanctuary.

The Impact:

“It has allowed me to make money for my animal sanctuary and provide a safe haven for my rescued animals.” It’s wonderful to see the work being done at Hilltop Farm on their Facebook page and seeing guests experience an exciting evening with a meal cooked by Robin.

It’s wonderful seeing all the work Robin and his team do at their animal sanctuary, and how their BBQ cabin helps funds rescuing and caring for animal in need!
