Limiting Stress in the Peak Glamping & Tourism Season

Written by Courtney James | Jul 1, 2025 6:00:00 AM

We are about to head into the peak season for the tourism industry, with many accommodation sites already fully booked for summer! The glamping market was valued at around £2 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach £2.5 billion in 2025, so it’s predicted to be another busy but successful year for the UK glamping industry.

While this is an exciting time for your business, when you and your staff are in the thick of it, you can be left feeling run off your feet, overwhelmed and like you’re just surviving.
So, to keep you (and your business) on top form and limit any additional stress factors, we have put together some advice on how to manage your business organisation and mental health leading up to, and during the summer months.

Top tips for managing stress in the peak glamping season

Hire Seasonal Staff

Many hands make light work and hiring seasonal staff can help free up your time to tackle other jobs on your never ending to-do list.

Over the summer holidays there are plenty of students who are looking for a productive way to fill their time and earn some money between studying, or people looking for an additional part-time job.

By having more hands on deck for tasks like cleaning, running kitchens, working on the reception desk, assisting customers and general maintenance, it can make your job of the overall running of your site easier, and ease the workload of your other staff members!

Maintaining Peace

You might think it’s obvious to check that everything is in working order before the peak season kicks off, but some people might not think to check on the small things before something completely stops working or becomes a major problem.

Regular maintenance and check-ins will ensure a much better experience for you and your customers.

Guests don’t want to use a cold or run-down campsite shower, and you don’t want to deal with complaints about maintenance issues when you already have a long list of other tasks to sort out.

Checking that all the essentials are working properly before your glampsite gets busy can prevent so many issues down the line, save you time and give you peace of mind- don’t ignore that small issue before it becomes a big problem!

Tech Troubles

In the modern, digital age, one biggest stressors for businesses are IT systems that don’t work properly. This can lead to confusion for staff and potential customers navigating your website and booking systems.

To reduce your troubles with technology:

  • Update your website & booking system: Ensure that your website and booking systems are up to date and in top shape to guarantee a smooth booking process for customers and allow them access to all the information they need regarding their stay at your camping & glamping site.
  • Consider a website upgrade: If you feel like your website needs a full upgrade, this can be done in the quieter season when you’re not expecting a high amount of web traffic that could be lost if customers land on a broken website while you're mid-update.
  • Get customer feedback: Take this opportunity in the peak season to ask customers what they think you could implement to improve the booking system and website navigation experience.
  • Make data management easy: If you currently manage bookings through email or social media direct messages, keeping all your information all in one place can make life so much easier for you and your staff. Many successful accommodation businesses use sites like Booking.com and Airbnb to manage bookings, as they have become the go-to website when looking for a unique stay. More specific to the camping and glamping industry- Pitchup.com and Canopy & Stars are well-known and highly trusted booking systems.

Some camping and glamping businesses still rely on word of mouth or direct contact with customers to book their stay- our best advice here is to do what works best for you, your staff’s workflow and your customers’ experience.

Mental Health Matters

When running a glamping business, your head quickly gets filled with hundreds of questions from customers and staff, tasks to do, people’s opinions, how to grow your business more, what to post on social media, sorting that paperwork that’s been piling up, your inner critic, what to have for dinner tonight- PHEW!

Which is why it’s important for you to take a moment to breathe and step away- even if it’s in a 30 minute lunch break. Carving out a bit of time in your busy work and personal life to just relax and disconnect can greatly improve your overall wellbeing, help offload your busy brain, and return refreshed and feeling more motivated!

Your guests can use your glamping site to escape from their busy life and prioritise their mental health, and how will you be able to provide that experience if you are neglecting your own?

Set positive boundaries and encourage healthy habits for yourself and your staff, this could be through:

  • Uninterrupted breaks: Take a step back, recharge and ground yourself.
  • Keep yourself and staff energised: Throughout summer, keep the staff kitchen stocked with plenty of cool drinks and snacks for when people just need a little boost on their breaks- maybe a few ice creams in the freezer too!
  • Spend time off your phone and social media: Comparing yourself to others is a slippery slope.
  • Avoiding work conversations or tasks in your time off: Get back that work-life balance!
  • Delegate tasks: Ask another member of staff to take on one of your jobs to ease your workload, whilst also being mindful of theirs.
  • Reach out to staff: If they seem overwhelmed, ask what they need from you or give them a hand with a task if you have the capacity to take it on.
  • Access mental health services: Have a list of mental health and wellness services available to all staff if they need to reach out, but feel like they don’t want to talk to someone at work about it.

Book Yourself A Break

After a busy season running your glamping site, it’s important to take time for yourself and reflect on the successful season your business just had. We’re not saying go all out and book a two week long, all inclusive sunny getaway in the Maldives, but go for it if that’s your thing!

Here are some ideas to celebrate your summer season success:

  • Organise an evening with your staff to go out for a meal and a few drinks to celebrate your hard work- make sure to include your seasonal staff so thank them for their hard work too.
  • Contact a local catering company and order some extra special lunches for staff throughout the season- maybe some artisanal pizzas, a charcuterie spread or afternoon tea.
  • If your glamping site closes for a few days after the peak season for a reset, you could take one of these days to organise a staff group trip or activity day at your site.
  • Collaborate with local businesses to organise an activity, a relaxing wellness day or let everyone take a well needed wellness day for themselves.
