Chester Lakes spans 500 acres of Cheshire countryside, 2 miles from Chester city centre and comprises of lakes, walkways and parkland. Historically it was a part of the Duke of Westminster’s estate. Chester Lakes offers caravan, camping pitches, seven fishing lakes, a café, bar, bait shop, a children’s play area, boot camps, forest schools, army style assault course and personal training. In 2011 Chester Lakes installed 5 barbecue cabins. The barbecue cabins can be hired out for an overnight stay or day time, they are very popular for parties for adults and kids. Each cabin seats 12 – 15 and sleeps 4.
Chester Lakes has been offering caravan and camping for 4 years. At the start of 2011 they began looking for new camping accommodation. They wanted something that was different, that no-one else was offering, and that would enhance the Chester Lakes experience and would extend the accommodation season. Chester Lakes is open 12 months of the year. The team wanted to be able to offer accommodation throughout the autumn and winter months because people still wanted to stay, they just didn’t want to camp. Due to planning regulations the cabins also needed to be moveable/portable. Every Christmas and New year, the cabins are booked as they are cosy, warm and a fabulous different way for celebrations.
Arctic Cabins and Camping Cabins built and installed five 10m2 barbecue cabins around the lakes. Each cabin seats 12 – 15 and sleeps 4. Chester Lakes is the only place in the UK where you can stay/camp in an Arctic Cabins, Barbecue Cabin. The cabins are fitted out with the full barbecue, accessory kit and reindeer skins. To satisfy planning regulations and to offer Chester Lakes maximum flexibility with the cabins, all were mounted on a chassis so that they were moveable.
Within a few weeks of the cabins being installed bookings started to come in via the website and from visitors to the site seeing them and loving them. Donna at Chester Lakes said “the barbecue cabins are our biggest attraction they are in demand as they are an alternative to camping”. People enjoy them, as they are warm, fun and different, they are popular with groups of friends and individuals alike.”
The cabins installed at Chester Lakes have been a huge success, they were booked up for 2014 New Year celebrations and get together’ s by September 2014. Another part of the owners business is a portfolio of luxury self-catering cottages on a private estate in Anglesey, North Wales. Seven cabins are planned for the Anglesey Estate following on from their popularity and success at Chester Lakes. These cabins will be available for the Summer 2015 season.
